About UltraDefrag Disk Defragmenter

UltraDefrag is a defrag software originally written by Dmitri Arkhangelski and later on joined by Justin Dearing, responsible for the manual among other things. UltraDefrag is an open source disk defrag utility apt to defrag any file or folder fragmentation. You may be facing the problem of file fragmentation in your computer. System slowness, PC crashes and low performance are its basic symptoms. You can never achieve maximum performance level with fragmented volumes. The more the fragmentation the lesser will be the system's file input output performance. UltraDefrag is an easy and ideal defrag software to solve all such problems.

UltraDefrag uses the Windows defragmentation API. It works for Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista operating systems and all the 64-bit editions of Windows. It is released under the GNU General Public License. It supports FAT 12 / 16 / 32 and NTFS file systems as well as on Vista UDF. The latest of the editions of UltraDefrag includes very simple and compressed interface and can be operated with a few settings alone. As soon as you load and launch the program it will scan all your drives in a fraction of time. It then displays the detailed information of each drive as the file system used, total GB size and the amount of free space available in GB as well as in percentage. You can also include the removable media as USB keys in the list.

Working on UltraDefrag:
UltraDefrag is a very fast defragger as it uses kernel-mode driver to run. There are three interfaces such as graphical, console and native. The GUI is greatly useful as it displays the filesystem as a colour coded cluster map. If you prefer the command line option console will be apt for you. This would allow you to run the UltraDefrag form task scheduler and scripts. And the native option will execute at boot time similar to chkdsk.

UltraDefrag doesn't have any complex skins or useless stuff. It is small but powerful program and is very simple to run. The setting is also quite easy. Although you do not have any of the unnecessary options but you have the option to use the file filter that allows you to include or exclude the files to be defragmented as you feel like. As soon as the defragmentation is started the cluster map that was clear at the beginning starts filling with coloured squares displaying files, folders, directories, fragmented files, compressed files and the Master File Table (MFT) size. This would allow you to have the idea of the state of the selected partition. If you need the process to be completed quickly you have the option to configure UltraDefrag program so as to avoid the files bigger than the size chosen.
